Event description
We are looking for eager volunteers to participate in the 2021 Point-in-Time Count of YQR Homelessness.

About this event

WHAT IS A POINT-IN-TIME COUNT?

A Point-in-Time (PiT) Count is a strategy to help determine the extent of homelessness in a community on a given night, or at a single point in time. The PiT-Count is supported through the Government of Canada’s Reaching Home program as administered in Regina by Namerind Housing Corporation.

Volunteers take the streets to offer an anonymous housing survey to citizens. Results from the effort illuminate extent of homelessness in Regina.

For more information in the PiT-Count, visit https://flowcommunityprojects.ca/projects/count-2021/

We are looking for volunteers for the 2021 PiT-Count of Regina Homelessness.

We are looking for:

Team Leaders: A volunteer that leads a team of Survey Volunteers in a walking area. This person usually has experience working with vulnerable populations.

Survey Volunteers: Volunteers that walk a designated route in an area or patrol a higher traffic Hot Spot, offering an anonymous housing survey to citizens. Survey Volunteers in walking areas are lead by Team Leaders. It helps if these people also have some experience working with vulnerable populations, but it is not a requirement.

Headquarters (HQ) Volunteers: these volunteers stay back at HQ and are assigned survey teams to look after. They perform routine check-ins with said Survey Teams to make sure everything is going alright throughout the night of the count.

Supplies Runners: Volunteers willing to donate their time and vehicle to run supplies out to survey teams when needed.

All volunteers will be trained on the night of The Count, before heading out to take the streets, at the mamweyatitan centre. Additional training material will be send out in the weeks prior to The PiT-Count for volunteer viewing purposes.

There is an option to register as an individual or as a team. Additionally, in the Order Form, it will ask you whether you or your team prefer to be in a Walking Area or a Hot Spot. This is important because Walking Areas require 3 volunteers (1 Team Leader and 2 Survey Volunteer) - and Hot Spots only require 2 volunteers (2 Survey Volunteers). With that being said, if you sign up as a group of 2 and prefer to be in a Walking Area, someone that signed up as a individual volunteer may be placed in your group.

In order to sign up as a team, one group member must sign up and create the team first. This will be done through the registration portal. The creator of the group will be asked to create a group name and password, after which they can communicate that group name and password to members of the group, allowing them to sign up for said Team. Each volunteer needs to sign up, whether or not they are planning on being on a team. For clarity on this process, please download this Volunteer Registration Instructions PDF
