Tannas Conservation Services (TCS) and Eastern Slopes Rangeland Seeds (TCS) is pleased to be hosting our annual Plant Identification Course again this year. The course will be held in three components: Forbs, Grasses, and Willows/Sedges. Each component will focus on hands-on, field keying and identification using The Common Plants of The Western Rangelands field guides. Field locations will be in the Cochrane and Cremona regions. It is possible to attend any combination of days, but attending the first day of the Grass course is highly recommended if attending the second day.
Component 1
June 5 Forbs - Exact location to be determined, Cochrane, AB – parkland and foothills species
Component 2
June 6 Exact location to be determined, Cochrane, AB – prairie and foothills species
June 7 Grasses Cremona, AB – parkland and forested species
Component 3
June 8 Willow/Sedge Cremona, AB – foothills and wetland species
Component 4
June 9 Exam for AIA equivalency to a 3 credit University Course for Plant Identification and Taxonomy. To be written at Cremona, AB. Comes with a certificate
Schedule:
8:30 - 9am - Registration (you only need to register on the first day, the rest of the time you'll start at 9am)
9 - 10am Morning classroom session (On June 5th and 6th only - other days it will be all field)
10-12 Morning field session
12-1 - Lunch
1-:4:30ish - Afternoon field session
What to bring:
- Please bring your own lunch.
- Notebook, pens etc for note taking
- Wear/bring weather appropriate clothing and sufficient water. Hat is highly recommended
- Backpack to carry books in
- Hand lens if you have one
- The plant ID book for the specific day (see below). If you ordered the books you will receive them on the first day
- Please do not bring any pets

Tannas Conservation Services (TCS) is a family run and operated company based NW of Calgary, Alberta.
