About this event

Online Meditation Class - 21 Meditations

Meditation on Tranquil Abiding

Tuesday 5 October 7pm - 8:30pm

online and onsite with Kadampa Buddhist nun, Gen Kelsang Kunden

Join us on Tuesday evenings with our Twenty-one Meditations class. These twenty-one meditations are a condensation of all Buddha’s teachings, presented by the Indian Buddhist master Atisha when he taught in Tibet over a thousand years ago. They are known as the Lamrim or the “stages of the path to Enlightenment”. These twenty-one meditations encompass the entire Mahayana Buddhist path. Meditating and contemplating lamrim is a practical method to transform our mind from negative to positive, to grow our supreme good heart and inner wisdom, and to solve our own and others’ problems. If we gain deep experience of Lamrim there will be no basis for problems; we shall be completely free of them.

In each class we will engage in one lamrim (stages of the path to Enlightenment) meditation. Each class will consist of a guided breathing meditation, followed by a teaching to familiarize ourselves with the points to contemplate. This will be followed by a guided meditation on the lamrim meditation. After the meditation, there will be advice on how we can put our new understanding into practice in our daily life. In this way, we can deepen our experience of the lamrim meditation in the week ahead.

This class is based on the lamrim meditation: tranquil abiding. Actual tranquil abiding is a special concentration that is completed by training in the nine levels of concentration known as the “nine mental abidings”, and is conjoined with a special bliss of mental and physical suppleness. For these and following tranquil abiding meditations, we will hold great compassion as the object of meditation.

Everyone welcome to join us for these meditation classes. These classes are suitable for all backgrounds and all experiences.

These classes are offered both online (via Zoom) and onsite at the Avalokiteshvara Kadampa Centre in Guelph. If you would like to join us for class onsite, please text 22.486.2417 to reserve your seat! Classes are simultaneously onsite and online. We have limited seating onsite to practice social distancing. If you are agree to follow our covid-19 guidelines, we are very happy to have you here. Avalokiteshvara Kadampa Buddhist Centre (AKBC) was established in 2009 to provide people in Guelph and Southwestern Ontario with the opportunity to develop happiness and inner peace through practising Buddha’s teachings.  AKBC is a peaceful oasis in the city where anyone can learn the right methods to experience lasting happiness and well-being. AKBC serves the Southwestern Ontario communities of Guelph, Kitchener, London, Stratford, Georgetown and nearby areas.

Kadampas are those who take Buddha’s teaching as personal advice and put it into practice.  This modern presentation from the Kadampa lineage is particularly suited to people of the modern world to help solve our modern-day problems such as stress, anxiety, anger, and ill-health.

We are located in Guelph at 143 Wyndham St N, Suite 203, where we offer a wide variety of classes, courses, retreats and workshops and Buddhist prayers year round. We also offer drop in classes on meditation and modern Buddhism at various venues in the surrounding area.

Classes are run entirely by volunteers. AKBC is a Canadian registered charity (81467 9429 RR0001).

AKBC is also a member of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU), a non-profit organization with a global network of over 1,200 Centres and groups around the world.
