Event Information
About this Event
Our conference this year is going online. We have scheduled monthly, virtual events / presentations from November 2020 to May 2021. The theme of our virtual conference is "Mental Health Matters". Registration for each session is a separate event in Eventbrite.
Understanding Anxiety & Learning Challenges - Torie Patterson and Amanda Daniel (7:00 - 8:00)
In this workshop we will discuss the role of anxiety in our lives, how it is expressed, and the relationship between anxiety and learning challenges. Strategies for how to understand and support children and youth with anxiety will be discussed.
Torie Patterson and Amanda Daniel are Child and Family Clinicians in the Integra Program at the Child Development Institute in Toronto, a specialized program delivering clinical interventions to children and youth with co-occurring learning disabilities and mental health issues (LDMH). Our work focuses on promoting mental health and socio-emotional development of children with learning disabilities through evidence-informed therapy practices that accommodate the child, youth and family’s strengths in learning.
Emotional Regulation & Strategies for Success - Jack Manchester (8:00 - 9:00)
Emotions are powerful. Parents of children, tweens and teens with 22q are under a lot of stress and their ability to self-regulate has a direct impact on their children’s ability to do the same. Jack Manchester, a Child and Family Therapist at Integra Foundation, will outline strategies how parents can help manage their emotions to then ensure they are able to assist their kids. Remember to always put your oxygen mask on first!
Supported by the SickKids 22q Deletion Syndrome Clinic, this parent-organized event is a forum to connect, share, and learn from experts and other parents whose lives have been touched by 22q11DS.
This series has been partially funded through SickKids Foundation.
