The goal of the SSEI program is to support and provide training for newcomers in finding employment related to their specific field.

About this event

Are you interested in obtaining an in-depth understanding of your sector/industry, learn more about your specific sector dynamics, and the skills and hiring requirements for occupations within your sector?

If yes, then the Sector Specific Employment Initiative (SSEI) is the program for you.

World Skills Employment Centre is excited to invite you to participate in SSEI, which is a program that focuses on employer engagement strategies and evaluates the impact of such focused strategies on the level of employer engagement and, subsequently, the success in the employment of internationally trained newcomers within 15 selected sectors.

The program aims to enlist 750 clients over the period of three years. Interested participants will be assigned to the sector of their choice.

What makes SSEI unique is that if offers job seekers highly-focused services, sector specific employer events, and activities that are specifically tailored to their sectors, such as sector-specific:

  • Training
  • Job fairs, job postings and one-on-one support
  • Targeted recruitment events
  • Employer information and coaching sessions
  • Employer mentorship

To be eligible to participate in this program, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • CLB level 5+
  • Permanent resident of Canada OR protected person and/or refugee
  • Unemployed OR underemployed
  • Willing to participate in the research project

Sector Specific Employment Initiative is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and implemented by World Skills Employment Centre, alongside partnership with the Centre for Research on Inclusion at Work (CRIW) at the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University and with Recruiting in Motion.
