The 28th Annual Mini GO Ride - Covid-19 / Physical Distancing version

***FIRST 70 Registrants who donate at least $10 will receive either a $10 Neebing Roadhouse Gift Certificate or a Non-Medical Grade Face Shield.

The past few months have been tumultuous and stressful for the entire world.  Currently (at the time of this writing) the governments have been slowly lifting the Covid-19 related restrictions.  So it appears that, as time goes on, more restrictions will be eased and the virus will hopefully continue to subside.  In that light, we decided to still hold the Mini GO Ride, but in a different manner.

Due to Covid-19 we will be asking riders to please adhere to the rules of all levels of governments.  As we all know, the rules change frequently so please adhere to them as they stand on the day that you ride.

WHAT: The Mini GO Ride (MGR) is a fun, non competitive bike tour of approximately 10, 20, or 50km on the back-country roads of Thunder Bay and Oliver-Paipoonge Township.

WHEN: From the day you sign up/donate to the last day of June 2020. The event will take place during the entire month to allow more opportunity for safer spacing between riders. Please ride in the daylight hours.

WHERE: You may start and end anywhere along the route, or at the Neebing Roadhouse or Kamview parking lots (see below section on WHERE TO PARK). The routes span from the Neebing Roadhouse to Candy Mountain Road for the short route (12km); to Hanna Road for the medium route (19km); and to Hwy 588 for the long route (50km).   The routes are well marked CLICK HERE TO VIEW OR PRINT ROUTE MAP

If you just can't get your way out to the Neebing, then ride anywhere by golly, yes... anywhere.  LOL

The routes are marked with temporary white paint showing arrows at each turn. The last arrow will be marked with a number which indicates the distance to the next turn. Each arrow has a signature marking of an upsidedown letter “u” at the bottom of the arrow.

NEEBING ROADHOUSE:  Please note that the Neebing Roadhouse is open for take out from 4:00 to 8:30 pm every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.  If restrictions drop, they hope to have the back patio open every day.

WHERE TO PARK: You may park at the Neebing Roadhouse but only if there are no more than 12 vehicles in the parking lot and as long as you follow the current Covid-19 restrictions, keep at least 2 metres apart, and don’t congregate. When parking, please park as far as possible from other parked vehicles.

If the Neebing parking lot is full, then you may park at the Kamview (Thunder Bay Nordic Trails) parking lot, but only if there are no more than 12 vehicles in the parking lot and as long as you follow the current Covid-19 restrictions, keep at least 2 metres apart, and don't congregate.  When parking, please park as far as possible from other parked vehicles. Kamview is about 1km north of the Neebing on the 20th Side Rd.

If both of the parking lots are full, then park anywhere else along the route that is sensible, safe, courteous and lawful and simply start and end the ride from where you are parked.

COVID RELATED CHANGES 1) This year's ride will span almost a full month in order to make it easier to adhere to the Covid-19 restrictions and to make participating riders feel at ease that they are not mixing too closely to others.

2) If you ride with a group (maximum of 10), you must still practise safe physical distancing of 2 metres.

3) Usually, we gather as a group inside the Neebing Roadhouse, but not this year.  Usually we give munchies along the way, but not this year.

4) You may start and end anywhere or at the Neebing Roadhouse or Kamview parking lots, but if there are many vehicles in their parking lot, you may park and ride from anywhere on the route (see "WHERE TO PARK" section)

5) During the ride, we will ask riders to allow adequate distance when passing another rider. You must be careful of traffic when passing. And we ask that anyone who is passing another rider to let the person know that they are passing, and we also ask that the person being passed to slow down a bit to allow a quick pass.

6) This year our online registration will be by donation only. You decide how much to donate. Ideally, please give at least $5 per rider, but more will be welcome.

BELOW YOU WILL FIND THE REST OF THE RIDE INFORMATION

Our Causes – Underground Gym (UGG) and Northern Ontario PPE for HCP

The Underground Gym & Youth Centre

Provides FREE ACCESS to multiple activities & meals for youth in need, 4 to 17+ years (co-ed) and is dedicated to promoting and teaching fitness, healthy lifestyles, self-confidence and self-respect.

They’ve had two major setbacks in the last year. In November 2019, their clubhouse building had to be shut down due to a water pipe burst, rat infestation and impending roof collapse. Then earlier this spring, much of the equipment in the clubhouse got stolen.

But Peter Panetta continues to serve the children by feeding them and taking them on excursions with his bus (when Covid-19 is not an issue).
