About this Event

This year's Friesen Conference is focused on the key role that Supportive Communities can play in promoting healthy aging at the global, national, regional and local level and for both individuals and populations aging in today's society. Among topics that will be covered are similarities and differences between Age-Friendly Communities, Dementia-Friendly Communities, Compassionate Cities and Healthy Cities - four separate global movements; CMHC's national housing strategy, local housing issues such as renovictions, and (re)emerging trends such as inter-generational housing and living arrangements; transportation issues; the important role played by senior centres, neighbourhood houses and adult day care centres in combatting social isolation; innovative home support programs for frail older adults, and much more.

This conference will be of interest to people aged 55+, their families and advocates; health, social, hospice and palliative care providers; assisted living and residential care developers, project owners, managers and regulators; urban and regional planners; lawyers and notaries; gerontology and geriatrics educators, researchers and students.

The Conference is hosted by the Simon Fraser University Gerontology Research Centre (GRC).
