Bridging Communities Through Strengthened Collaboration: An Interdisciplinary Conference on Family Violence Prevention
With funding provided from the Calgary Domestic Violence Collective (CDVC) & Alberta Community & Social Services, we are extremely pleased to host Bridging Communities through Strengthened Collaboration, a one day interdisciplinary conference for professionals in Alberta on various topics surrounding family violence prevention. The conference is part of the CDVC’s commitment to provide educational opportunities, increase public awareness and engage the community in ending domestic violence.

9:00 - 9:15 AM Welcome Remarks
Greetings from Christina Tortotelli, Associate Director, Calgary Region Children's Services
9:15 - 12:00 PM Keynote Speaker - Dr. Christopher Wilson
Dr. Christopher Wilson is a licensed psychologist and internationally recognized speaker in the field of domestic violence and sexual assault. Through his career he has done extensive work with men’s groups and victims of domestic violence.
For his keynote presentation, Dr. Wilson will be discussing the neurobiology of trauma and will help the audience understand how the brain reacts to domestic violence and creates cognitive dysfunction. The presentation will focus on a trauma informed approach and he will unpack the reasons why victims of domestic violence react the way they do and end with a discussion of why “you’d stay too.”
