Description

On August 31, 2018 we put Winnipeg on the map as the 16th place in Canada to walk for Drug Overdose Awareness and Mayor Brian Bowman recognized International Overdose Awareness Day in Manitoba and lit up our sign purple in honour of our fallen. This August 31 on IOAD we will again be gathering at the Winnipeg sign and Scotia Bank Stage to again honour and remember our fallen and aware more, so we lose less. The first 250 to sign in will receive a free bottle of water and a purple glow stick necklace. There will be education, a Deez Buns hot dog cart who will be splitting half of their proceeds equally between JL Overdose Awareness and Bruce Oake Recovery Centre. DJ Disspare will be dropping the needle on vinyl until the walk begins at 7:30

The Route: On this scenic 5k walk we will begin down the path behind the Scotia bank Stage where Ghandi stands and make our way towards the CHRM, across the street and past Shaw Park until we hit the roundabout. We will cross at the roundabout and walk back towards and over the Provencher Bridge until we hit Tache and make our way down the new river path towards at Main. At Main we will cross the bridge and make our way down to The Forks river walk and walk to where the Dragon Boat Races normally begin and back ups to where we began our walk . Wheelchair accessible and dogs are welcome. So are donation to cover the event and go back into community supports. Half of the proceeds will be donated to the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre.
