Description
We had such a great time last year we have decided to do it again!
Join us today on our 2nd Annual journey to the Oxford County Cheese Trail. The journey begins in St Clair Beach where you will board a mini coach and be greeted by Sarah Barrette from The Cheese Bar, your host for the day. We will start you off this morning with a delicious Cold Brew from 30ml Coffee and a fresh scone to enjoy as we set off on our Journey to The Cheese Trail.
Our first stop is at Stonetown Cheese, in St Mary's. We will be taken on a tour, have an opportunity to sample some delicious cheese from the newest producer in our region and of course you will also have a chance to purchase some of their farmstead cheese. After meeting Hans and visiting his farm we will head to Stratford for a sit down lunch.
After a nice lunch we will head out to visit Adam, owner and cheesemaker at Mountainoak Cheese in New Hamburg. This farmstead cheese producer will give us a tour of their facility, aging room and lucky for you, there will also be a sampling session and an opportunity once again to pick some of your favourites up in the small retail space. There is a good chance we will be able to try a few cheeses that The Cheese Bar has not yet carried!
Back on board our mini coach we will roll out of New Hamburg and head West to Woodstock. A bottle of kombucha from The Holistic Guy will be served along with some veggies for a little snack en route to Gunn’s Hill Artisan Cheese Co. This artisan cheese factory specializes in farmstead cheese using milk from his parents farm next door. Shep Ysseltein, and his team at Gunn’s Hill create several Swiss-style, washed rind varieties. You will be brought through their again room, which recently has been doubled in size, have an opportunity to sample some of Shep’s award winning cheese and ask questions to the young entrepreneur.
After a fabulous day of dairy goodness we will board the coach for the last time today and bid farewell to the fabulously cheesy county of Oxford and make our way back to St Clair Beach as we toast with a glass of wine to cheese makers, cheese lovers and the fabulous animals that produce the milk along with some local chocolate and strawberries. Can you think of a better way to spend your day?
