Event description

Description

In this introduction to 3D printing you will design and print your own succulent vase, going through the process of CAD (computer aided design) modelling, prepping the file on a Slicer program and finally printing your design. You will learn the basics of 3D printing technologies including challenges and strategies in obtaining high quality prints, filament types and differences between various printers.

The tools used in this class will be the CAD modelling software Fusion 360 and an Ultimaker 3 printer. As laptops are limited, please try to bring a laptop pre-installed with Fusion 360 (free for students, hobbyists, startups), otherwise a laptop cannot be guaranteed. Please also note CAD modelling time is limited to ensure sufficient printing time and in the case where your design cannot be completed, a pre-designed file will be used.

About the Instructors

Brandon is an industrial designer who's used 3D printing to create multiple
products including an open source smartphone controller for quadriplegics
and various lighting fixtures. He has been using Fusion 360 for the past 3
years to design products.

Bob is an industrial designer who was captivated by 3D printers ever since
watching one in action. He's inspired by the possibilities for 3D printing
to bridge the digital and physical world and and hopes everyone can benefit
from this technology to empower their life.

Note: This class does not provide access to MakerLabs' 3D printer
