Event description

Description

Spend this Simcoe Day (Civic Holiday) on a long weekend adventure at Algonquin Park!

We're going on a three day canoe camping trip leaving from Toronto on Friday evening and returning on Monday evening. On Friday night, we'll head up north and camp at Arrowhead Provincial Park.

Saturday morning, we pick up our canoes and put in at Canoe Lake. From there, we spend the day paddling and portaging to get to Tom Thompson Lake. We'll make camp, light a fire, and watch the stars come out.

On Sunday, we'll leave our camp and head out onto the water to discover the area. We'll learn about the artist Tom Thompson and the mysteries surrounding his death. There are lakes, rivers, and islands to explore. If we're lucky, we might see some local wildlife! Sunday evening we'll be back at our camp at Tom Thompson where we'll eat dinner and roast marshmallows on the campfire.

Monday morning we'll pack up our camp head back to Canoe Lake. We'll make a stop at a little island for a picnic lunch and one last chance to swim. Then we make our way back home to Toronto.

You can see the full itinerary here: Itinerary

Beginners are welcome!! We can take a maximum of 7 people on this trip (including the two of us).

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

There is no minimum or maximum age, but participants should be reasonably fit. We can adapt our trip to your physical condition but at a minimum you should be able to walk for an hour, and you should be able to carry 40lbs (in a backpack). We will be canoeing for about 4-5 hours per day, and you'll have the chance to go swimming when we take breaks. You'll also be doing general physical activities like collecting and chopping firewood, putting up and taking down tents, cooking, etc. Before the trip we'll send you a safety questionnaire to ask about any physical conditions that might affect your experience on this trip.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

We can give you a ride to and from Toronto. We'll meet at Christie Station and drive from there, or we can pick you up along on the way to Highway 400. You can also meet us at the park but keep in mind that you'll need to buy a parking permit for the duration of the trip.
