About this Event

Two renowned summer theatre companies in Eastern Ontario are teaming up to offer theatregoers two evenings of entertaining open-air theatre between July and August at a reduced rate. The 416 Play Pass allows audience members to enjoy Odyssey Theatre’s The Bonds of Interest between July 25-August 25, and one of St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival’s summer productions, Cyrano de Bergerac or A Winter’s Tale, between July 13-August 17.

Holders of the 416 Play Pass will get access to the best that Odyssey Theatre and the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival have to offer in July and August. By purchasing a summer theatre pass, play pass holders will save 33% off regular ticket prices. Play passes do not apply to a specific date and can be used at any point throughout the summer run. Holders of the play pass are asked to present their ticket at the door on the night of the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival performance, and contact Odyssey Theatre at 613-232-8407 or boxoffice@odysseytheatre.ca to reserve seating for The Bonds of Interest.

About the Plays

Just off the 416 Highway, along the banks of the St. Lawrence River, the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival’s double bill includes Shakespeare’s romantic comedy The Winter’s Tale and Edmond Rostand’s classic love story, Cyrano de Bergerac. 416 Play Pass holders will be offered a choice of one of the two shows as part of the summer theatre experience.

In historic Strathcona Park by the Rideau River, minutes from Ottawa’s downtown, Odyssey Theatre returns for their 34th season with The Bonds of Interest, by Nobel Prize laureate Jacinto Benavente. Directed by Odyssey’s Artistic Director Laurie Steven, The Bonds of Interest is a brilliant comic intrigue about two con artists who swindle an entire town of crooked merchants, powerful elites and grasping pretenders, all of whom will stop at nothing to get rich quick. This clever satire takes aim at the corruption and insatiable greed flourishing in a modern money-driven world. Featuring a dynamic new translation and adaptation, a talented cast and company from Ottawa, Toronto and the UK, and the return of Odyssey’s trademark style, this stunning production promises to be a magical evening of Theatre Under the Stars.

Odyssey Theatre is renowned for its open-air performances featuring Commedia dell’Arte, mask, physical theatre, clown and puppetry. Odyssey’s flagship Theatre Under the Stars series has received over 25 awards and nominations, and was most recently included in the Ottawa Citizen’s Top 10 Live Performances of 2018. The Bonds of Interest runs from July 25-August 25, 2019 Tuesdays through Sundays at 8pm, with matinees on Sunday afternoons at 2pm. For more information, visit www.odysseytheatre.ca.

St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival holds its annual Shakespeare festival July 13 through August 17 on the banks of the St Lawrence River in Prescott, Ontario. They have been performing since 2002 and have a reputation for their high quality and the talented actors they attract. This year’s festival features The Winter’s Tale and Cyrano de Bergerac, giving 416 Theatre Pass holders twice the choice.
