Event description

Description

On January 23, 2018, the College of Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan will be celebrating the achievements of mechanical engineering alumnus, Mike Marsh (BE'79), at the C.J. Mackenzie Gala of Engineering Excellence. Each year, the gala recognizes an alumnus who has achieved a position of eminence within their profession and honours their achievements by recognizing them as the evening’s Distinguished Lecturer and inducts them into the College of Engineering’s Alumni Wall of Distinction.

Founded in 1976, the college’s flagship event brings together students, faculty and staff from the College of Engineering to connect with engineering professionals, prominent companies and organizations across the province, as well as alumni. The event has become known within the Saskatoon engineering community as the College of Engineering’s premier event for engineers to gather, celebrate and listen to a distinguished alumnus.

ABOUT THE 2018 DISTINGUISHED LECTURER: Mike Marsh was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of SaskPower in April 2015. He joined SaskPower in 1991, following 12 years in the construction industry in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

At SaskPower, Mr. Marsh began his career at Boundary Dam Power Station in engineering and maintenance. He went on to various positions in the company, notably as Manager of Business and Financial Planning and Vice-President of Transmission and Distribution. In 2012, he became Vice-President of Operations and Chief Operations Officer, responsible for all operational areas including Power Production, Transmission Services and Distribution Services.

Mr. Marsh attended the University of Saskatchewan, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He later studied at Queen’s School of Business and obtained a Master of Business Administration. He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS).

He is a Board member of the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA), and is Past Chair of the CEA Transmission Council. He has also held positions on the CEA Distribution Council and Occupational Health and Safety Task Group.

Mr. Marsh is a Past President of Canadian Progress Club – Regina Centre Chapter. This service organization offers financial assistance to charities supporting children and wellness. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service). Mr. Marsh received the 2016 Industry Leader of the Year Award from Electricity Human Resources Canada.

The College of Engineering looks forward to an evening with Mike Marsh, and fellow engineers, industry professionals, faculty, staff, and students as they gather to celebrate an evening of engineering excellence!
