About this Event

Fire and life safety is a dynamic journey and a continuing evolution. There is always more to learn and it never hurts to revisit some of the basic tenets of fire and life safety. The IFMS programs are tools that you can access to help make the most of your fire and life safety journey. The more of them you use, the more robust your community’s fire and life safety plan and procedures can be.

To do more, you need more. That’s why the Indigenous Fire Marshal Service is offering a variety of live, interactive, virtual programs for individuals and communities at various levels of fire and life safety knowledge and experience. All of the programs offered tie into and build upon one another: helping provide the assets that you need to help make the most comprehensive safety plan, appropriate for your community’s needs.

Given the current situation of the COVID pandemic, and in order to keep the communities we work with and our people safe, these courses are currently being offered virtually. Our plan is to ultimately be doing deliveries and programs in person within communities, and eagerly look forward to when we can come together for training and delivery programs in person again.

4.4 Policy & Guideline Training

This 90 minute interactive virtual workshop is geared at Fire Departments, their employees and volunteers. This introductory course in fire department management creates an understanding of how to set up and create policy and guidelines. The course will cover the differences between “policy” and “guidelines”, as well as how to properly manage and maintain them. This workshop teaches how best to communicate policy and guidelines to your fire department crew. Most importantly, we will walk you through the creation of policy and guideline frameworks that meet the needs of your community based on your resources and capacity. Following this introductory course, you can reach out to the IFMS for dedicated one on one support specific to your unique situation.
