Event description

We are excited to invite you once again to our 4th Annual Turkeys on the Trail on Saturday, Dec 15, 2018 at the Main Hall of the ACT Centre in Rundle Park.

Our event has grown so much in the past four years, and continues to do so! We started with just over 100 participants in 2015, and have grown to nearly 300 participants the past two years!

We have been thrilled with the amount of support and success our event has had over the past 3 events. Since its inception in 2015 we have raised 3138 kg of food and $8683 which were ALL donated to the Edmonton Food Bank to help fill their Christmas Hampers. We hope to continue to grow and do even better in the years to come!

As always, our goal has not changed. In lieu of an entry fee, we ask our participants to bring a frozen turkey, non-perishable goods, or an appropriate monetary donation to the event, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Edmonton Food Bank. These donations are used to help fill Christmas hampers.

As always, the Food Bank has seen a steady increase in the need for their services. They hand out over 21,000 hampers each month and provide support to over 230 partner agencies. An astounding 40% of their clientele are children.

Our distances are as follows:

  • 1km kids race

  • 5km walk/run

  • 10km run

  • 25km trail run

We also plan to host post-race fun like last year, including sponsor booths, a mini-market, post-run food, drink and entertainment; and both raffle and draw prizes available.

We look forward to seeing you at this year's event!

What time are the different distance runs starting?

  • 25 km START: 8:30 AM

  • 10 km START: 10:00 AM

  • 5 km START: 10:30 AM

  • 1km START: 10:45 AM

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

There are three main parking lots. Two are on either side of the ACT Centre, and another is just a bit further by the Rundle Family Centre. These are quite big lots and should accommodate a lot of people. There is also parking lots before and after the ACT that will be about a 5 minute walk. We highly encourage carpooling!

What can/can't I bring to the event?

We are at the mercy of Mother Nature as our event is held in the winter. So although the 1km and 5km routes are chariot friendly, we cannot guarantee the trails will be in good shape or cleared for them. Bring at your own risk.

Dogs-we welcome dogs to run the event with you while on leash-some areas of the course are actually in off-leash areas as well! Pets are unfortunately not allowed inside the ACT centre. Please weigh bringing your pet based on the weather and do NOT leave your pet in a vehicle or out in the elements if it is a cold day.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

You can contact the race director via email at

What is the course like?

The course will mainly consist of double track gravel trails, but being as it is winter, these trails may or may not have ice or snow on them. The 5k/10k will have the most pavement and mainly double track gravel trail. The 25k will be a trail run - this will be technical single track and is in homage to our trail-running community. The 5k and 10k have been altered to make it more accessible to all ages and abilities.

Can I change my distance if needed?

Yes, we do allow you to change your distance up til midnight on Wednesday, December 12. After that all distances are final. If you decide to email us after this date there is little chance we will see it; we will be too busy looking after the final details of the race! To make everything flow smoothly please pick the distance you are most likely to do and give us as much notice as possible if you decide to switch distances or cancel. You can cancel your ticket yourself and re-register under the distance you wish - if your distance is sold out, do contact the race director and we can do this manually.

Does it need to be a frozen turkey? I'm vegetarian/vegan and would rather not bring that.

If you would rather not bring a frozen turkey, you can still bring other festive goods for your donation such as canned goods or gift cards. We usually say please bring at least $10 worth of goods. Please check out the Edmonton Food Bank's website for a list of their most needed items:
