Event description

Description

Enjoy inspiring action-oriented presenters and spectacular entertainment with Harmony through Harmony and RedPath Talent performances. You can win exciting prizes from the silent auction, Westjet tickets for two and a cash raffle up to $10,000.

Presenters include:

Rod McKendrick: President Elect of the Canadian Children’s Optimist Foundation, Rod also serves the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice and Attorney General as the interpersonal violence specialist, developing training materials, policies and protocols. He manages specialized programs related to children and sexual exploitation, co-chairing the government's Child Abuse and Sexual Exploitation Committee, leading the working group addressing human trafficking.

As an Optimist and a professional, he cares deeply about the people he serves. Rod worked in policing for over 31 years, starting out with the British Police then serving the Regina City Police.

Rod won an award from the International Association of Law Enforcement Planners Police Project of the Year for a Crime Prevention Series of 10 Shows called "Cop Shop" for community prevention education. Rod completed a Guide for Children and a Manual for Front Line Professionals for Children and Youth exposed to violence. He serves as the Vice-Chair of the Prairieaction Foundation, whose mandate is to provide funds to find solutions to reducing violence and abuse across the three prairie provinces.

Rod's breadth and depth of experience combined with the Optimists' commitment to bring out the best in youth, our communities and ourselves, made it an obvious choice to support the prevention of child sex trafficking through BRAVE Education for Trafficking Prevention when presented by local Optimist leader Marilyn Bushell.

Brittany Ouellette: Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service, Crime Prevention Coordinator. The TsuuT’ina Nation Police Service has over 25 police officers funded through the province with 16 officers funded by the nation, and 9 shared officers funded by the nation and the province. Traditional funding often only allows for a responsive model of policing. The TsuuT’ina Nation Police service, however, because of community-based commitment, allows for public safety and community safety initiatives. You will hear indigenous perspectives on community initiatives towards safety and empowerment programs across Canada.

TsuuT'ina Nation Police hosted a Youth Empowerment and Safety Camp with delivery by BRAVE Education for Trafficking Prevention and RedPath Talent in June. By making prevention through education a priority, we can empower youth to avoid recruitment which is growing more and more prevalent because of the advancement of social media technology.

You will also hear leading experiential spokespeople and innovative educators.

VIP Event from 5:00 - 6:00
Main Event from 6:30 - 9:30

Thank YOU for supporting our educational work in the community to prevent children and youth from being recruited into sex trafficking. By supporting BRAVE Education programs, you are helping provide life-saving prevention education in schools and communities. Our Goal is to have sex trafficking prevention education included in curriculum for all Alberta children from Grades 4 and up, given the average age of recruitment is 12-14, across all demographics.

The BRAVE Education for Trafficking Prevention program uses story, film and fun interactive activities, some of which you will experience this evening. BRAVE Education and RedPath Talent show participants a fascinating approach to inspiring youth to lead a life of sobriety, health and wellness.

We anticipate 150+ attendees and leaders from across all industries, such as healthcare, energy, technology, hospitality, government, and community police. During our evening together, we will be addressing topics and education on how we as a community can empower youth to effectively avoid recruitment into one of the fastest growing crimes of child sex trafficking in Canada. We achieve this by focusing on prevention and drug awareness.

Thank YOU for supporting our work in the community to prevent children and youth from being recruited into sex trafficking. By supporting BRAVE Education programs, you are helping provide life-saving prevention education in schools and communities.

You are invited to wear purple as a symbol of bravery for those working to stop exploitation of children and youth. Thank you for recognizing and responding to the urgency of education needed to prevent tragedies in the future. Think of education like smallpox vaccinations – this epidemic is preventable!

We are excited to share with you a night of optimism, empowerment and jaw-dropping performances!
