Description

Join with Victorians at this forum designed to foster awareness and galvanize steps we can take to combat racism, hate crimes and Islamophobia in our community. Learn about tools and resources our community can utilize to respond to hate crimes, racism and Islamophobia.

This forum will include an engaging blend of speakers, panel presentations, theatre and community dialogue activities designed to foster awareness, promote education and stimulate ideas about how our community can respond to hate crimes and racism with a focus on Islamophobia.

Participants are invited from law enforcement, faith groups, cultural organizations, educational institutions, community service providers, human rights agencies, immigrant service agencies and interested members of the general public.

There is no cost to attend. Lunch and refreshments provided.

Note: The April 24 forum will be followed by a half-day morning session on Thursday April 25 facilited by Organizing Against Racism and Hate (OARH). This smaller group of participants will discuss and contribute to the OARH protocol designed to coordinate responses to hate and racism in our community.

Day #2 of Forum- Thursday April 25 / 8:30am-11:30am / ICA 930 Balmoral Road Room 200

Working with Organizing Against Racism and Hate (OARH), key stake-holder organizations and community representatives will be invited to participate on development of the OARH anti-racism and hate crime protocol. Goal of protocol is to ensure an effective and collaborative regional response to incidents of hate and racism in our community. Breakfast and refreshments served.

This forum is organized by the Inter-Cultural Association, the Community Partnership Network (CPN) with the support of OARH (Organizing Against Racism & Hate), the Masjid Al-Iman, the Greater Victoria Multifaith Society (VMS), the Greater Victoria Police Diversity Advisory Committee (GVPDAC), the UVic Equity and Human Rights Office and the UVic Muslim Students Association.
