854 Sculpture Explorations - Material and Form
This course is an introduction to a broad range of approaches to object making. Through image presentations, demonstrations and hands-on work time in the studio, students will develop technical skills using both traditional and non-traditional materials. These materials include plaster, wire, plasticine, and found objects. Projects will introduce students to the elements of composition in three dimensions as well as the means by which a sculpture can communicate, such as through material, process, line, texture, mass and weight. Additional methods explored will include modeling, additive construction, planar construction, found-object assemblage and installation. An experimental approach to object-making and a sense of discovery are encouraged.
