Join the CEAD for an open conversation discussing Janan Rasheed's extensive art practice in which she's exhibited from LA to the Venice Biennale and hosted workshops at the Brooklyn Museum. Curator Liz Ikiriko will engage in a casual Q&A exploring the recent exhibition ___a lineage of transgression___, in which Janan Rasheed and Ikiriko have developed a working relationship. Topics possibly covered: relationality, the poetics of mathematics, speculative fiction and Black feminist collaborations.

Kameelah Janan Rasheed

Kameelah Janan Rasheed (b.1985) is a Brooklyn-based transdisciplinary artist, writer, educator and former public high school teacher. Rasheed’s work has been presented at EXPO Chicago (2019), Nome Gallery(2019), the Venice Biennale (2017), New Museum of Contemporary Art, Jack Shainman Gallery, Studio Museum in Harlem, Bronx Museum, Queens Museum, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, among others. In print her work has been featured in Cultured, the New York Times, Artforum, BOMB, Guernica, Triple Canopy, and others.

Liz Ikiriko

Liz Ikiriko is an artist, independent curator and photo editor. Her knowledge as a prairie-born researcher, writer, photographer, teacher and mother inform her practice which is focused on contemporary and historic African and diasporic narratives. Her writing has been published in Public Journal, MICE Magazine, C Magazine, Akimbo and The Ethnic Aisle. She holds an MFA in Criticism and Curatorial Practice from OCAD University (2019). She is one of OCAD University's Winter 2020 Creative-Professionals-in-Residence.

This workshop is presented as part of the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers Creative Professionals-in-Residence program and our Good w/Food series with support from the Faculty of Art.

The OCAD U Creative Professionals-In-Residence program is a mentorship initiative created to support the career success of current OCAD U students and recent alumni. It is also an opportunity to facilitate community and relationship building for emerging artists and designers. The Creative Professionals-In-Residence program sees invited professional guests, from a variety of art and design-related disciplines, present on a regularly scheduled basis over the course of the academic semester, in the new Rosalie Sharp Pavilion for Experiential Learning at 115 McCaul Street.
