About this event

Cozy up for a weekend of inspiring and thought-provoking films that explore how food touches on every aspect of our lives. Through powerful narratives, we consider the role of food in culture, belonging, social equity, community and the quest for self-fulfillment.

There is a 48-hour screening window that will begin Friday, November 19th, 6:30pm. Shuck some oysters, pop some popcorn, sink into the couch and watch at your leisure. Please check your email 10min before the start time for a link and password to access the films. **IMPORTANT** The Taste of Desire can only be viewed from within Canada.

Food for the Rest of Us (83min) is a feature film that presents 4 stories of people living life on their own terms, serving as leaders who are lending their voice to the underdog and leading a revolution to a better world, from the ground up! An Indigenous-owned, youth run organic farm in Hawaii, and Black urban grower in Kansas City who runs a land-farm at East High School, A female Kosher Butcher in Colorado working with the Queer Community and an Inuit community on the Arctic Coast who are adapting to climate change with a community garden in a small geodesic dome. Directed by Caroline Cox.

The Taste of Desire (87min). The film uses the oyster and its sensual and lavish associations as a symbol to explore human drives and desires. The oyster takes us on a trip around the world, in which protagonists that all have their own special relationship to the oyster share their ambitions, desires and existential fears. This cinematic documentary explores the intricate nature of our deepest yearnings and quest for self-fulfillment. Directed by Willemiek Kluijfhout.
