By Concordia University of Edmonton

Overview

Don't miss a rare opportunity to listen to a Chinese classic live in Edmonton: The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto.

Symphonic program uniting Western and Eastern ensembles in a staple of the Chinese repertoire: Gang Chen and Zhanhao He’s Butterfly Lovers Violin concerto. The program will recount the tale of the Chinese lovers, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, and their Western counterparts, the Shakespearean characters of Romeo and Juliet, as depicted by Tchaikovsky, and Maria and Tony by Bernstein, in a fascinating storytelling of love and tragedy portrayed in music.

The concerto will be interpreted by violinist Raymond Leung and conducted by Danielle Lisboa. CSO is proud to share the stage with special guests, the Edmonton Chinese Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Jason Wong.
