A discussion with Dennis Horak, former Ambassador of Canada to Saudi Arabia, until August, 2018 - presented by CIC Halifax and the Centre for the Study of Security and Development.

Dennis Horak will share his unique and extensive insights on Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, addressing regional security and economic issues, human rights, implications for Canada and more.

Glenn Davidson, former Ambassador to Syria and Afghanistan, will host the discussion, which will include time for questions and discussion.

Speaker Biography

Dennis Horak, (BA Honours [Political Science] York University, MSc Econ. [International Relations], London School of Economics, joined the Department of External Affairs in 1987. He has had overseas assignments as a Political officer in Stockholm (1989-90) Warsaw (1990-93), Riyadh (1996-99) and London (2002-06). He was appointed as Head of Mission/Chargé d’affaires in Tehran (2009-12) and as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain and Yemen (2015-18). Headquarters assignments have included assignments as Director of the Gulf and Maghreb Division and as Director of the Middle East Division. He retired in September 2018 and currently lives in Toronto with his wife Sally.
