Join author Lorraine Johnson in a conversation and garden tour celebrating her latest book "A Garden for the Rusty-Patched Bumblebee."

About this event

This event celebrates the publication of Lorraine Johnson's latest book, co-authored with Sheila Colla, A Garden for the Rusty-Patched Bumblebee. Join Lorraine Johnson for a conversation about pollinator gardens and a tour of Campbell House's garden.

A Garden for the Rusty-Patched Bumblebee provides all the information gardeners need to take action to support and protect pollinators, by creating habitat in yards and community spaces, on balconies and boulevards, everywhere!

With more than 300 native plants of Ontario and the Great Lakes region profiled in detail, along with sample garden designs, ideas for beautiful plant pairings and numerous tips for success, this fully-illustrated guide helps gardeners discover the crucial connections between native plants and native pollinators, and learn how to cultivate patches of pollinator paradise.

This $5 event ticket entitles each attendee to a $5 discount on Lorraine Johnson's new book purchased at the event.

Following the conversation and garden tour with Lorraine Johnson, attendees will have the opportunity to visit two museum art exhibits focused on bees:

Lorraine Johnson is a writer who engages with community issues and projects centred on habitat, urban food growing and land access. Her first book, Green Future, was published in 1990 and empowered individuals with environmental information for action. Her groundbreaking book on native plant gardening, The Ontario Naturalized Garden, was published in 1995, when it was illegal to grow milkweed in Ontario; Lorraine continues to advocate for the reform of grass and weeds bylaws. Her work focuses on the intersections of personal actions and the political and social structures that shape public priorities. lorrainejohnson.ca
