Description

Form this Anglican church, well renowned for its choral music tradition, a concert of music connected to Germany. Estonian composer Arvo Pärt’s Berliner Messe (or Berlin Mass) is a mass setting by commissioned for the 90th Katholikentag at St. Hedwig's Cathedral, Berlin in 1990, scored for SATB soloists and organ. Pärt is credited as being the most performed living composer in the world for seven consecutive years, and his style described as that of mystic minimalism. Josef Rheinberger was an organist and composer, born in Liechtenstein and resident for most of his life in Germany. His best known choral work, the gorgeous Abendlied, is the 3rd in a set of 3 Geistlicher gesange (3 Spiritual songs). Rhienberger is a contemporary of Brahms with influences of Mendelssohn, Schubert and Bach. The concert is conducted by Robin Davis with strings accompanying the Haydn Kleine Orgelmesse and guest organist David Smith.
