Event Details

Join us at this one-day conference to begin developing a vision of a progressive, sustainable

jobs agenda for BC. Currently, the BC government is putting virtually all its eggs in one basket— expansion of natural gas development, with a promise of economic windfalls and increased jobs for British Columbians. This comes at a time when more aggressive action on climate is needed.

The conference will feature about a dozen short paper presentations and plenty of discussion. We aim to identify policies that will chart a different path and foster the development of good jobs in BC. Join us as we explore the following themes:

  • »  green jobs and local procurement

  • »  fostering the co-op sector

  • »  sustainable resource sectors

  • »  the role of the public sector

  • »  unleashing the potential of the creative sector and social innovation

The conference will feature presentations from:

  • Peter Hall (SFU) - A Gateway to Good Jobs?
  • Highlights from the National Good Jobs Summit
  • Jonathan Kassian (GreenJobs BC) - Green Jobs: The Picture Across The Province
  • Charley Beresford (Columbia Institute) - The Power of Local Procurement
  • Matt Toner (Zeroes 2 Heroes Media)  - Creating the Creative Economy
  • Ken McFarlane - Advanced Local Manufacturing
  • Lynne Fernandez (CCPA-MB) - A Model from Manitoba
  • Kevin Harding (BC Co-operative Association) - Building Good Jobs Together
  • Guy Dauncey - Sixteen Steps to a Green Cooperative Economy
  • Jessica Dennis (UBC) - Growing Good Agricultural Jobs in BC
  • Herb Hammond - Sustainable Value-Added Forestry
  • Janet Newbury - How the Public Sector Can Foster Commmunity Economies
  • Lynell Anderson (Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC) - $10/day Child Care Plan
  • Megan Scott (BCGEU) - The Case of Environmental Management
