A Lab Of One's Own: International Women's Day 2017
Sun, 19 March 2017, 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM EDT
We are called to be architects of the future, not its victims.
-R. Buckminster Fuller
What would the world look like if it were shaped by women? What world would you build, given the time and the resources to move the tides of culture and technology?
For International Women’s Day, Little Dada alongside Intel and Design Exchange invite women* to the second annual Lab of One’s Own, a technology workshop where we will collaborate on building speculative feminist futures. We invite you to imagine the ideas and technologies that would populate your feminist future, and prototype them using Intel’s Arduino 101. No previous experience is necessary, we will lead you through conceptualization and technical execution.
Alongside workshop time, there will be short presentations by designers, city builders and technologists who approach their work from an intersectional feminist lens and time for meeting other feminist folks. We are celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women*.
Come to A Lab of One’s Own and imagine how we can construct meaningful future scenarios that centre changes emerging from an intersectional feminist lens. We will make devices, drawings, experiments, and artefacts that tell a story from your speculative future.
"Building Robots While Being Female"
"Should We Gender the Robot?"
A presentation on challenging experiences as a designer interning at a domestic robots factory in China.
"Art as Resistance. Art as Resilience"
We have the power to shape the future, and the first step is imagining it.
And remember, you need no prior knowledge to join us, we want participants of all levels!
