About this event

Join Adriana for three weeks of handles! What’s a handle? Basically, it’s a game that has a unique structure and specific parameters that work together to add an extra playful layer to an improv scene. Some well-known examples include: Scenes from a Hat, Pillars, and Number of Words. If you’ve watched Whose Line is it Anyway, you’ve seen handles in action. Handles challenge improvisers to think quickly and creatively and delight audiences not only for their silliness but also because they tend to involve a lot of audience participation.

This course is open to beginners and seasoned improvisers. After this 3-week course (Wednesdays: October 5, 12, and 19th), you can practice your skills at our monthly jam on October 26th – a loose, informal night of scenes and games where the Staircase Improv community comes out to play in the main theatre.

As with all Staircase Improv classes and events the instructor will create and curate a safe and supportive environment for learning improv comedy. The instructor, Adriana Alfano, has been a Staircase improviser since 2013. She is the Educational Lead at Staircase Improv and a founding member of the Understudies.

Dates: October 5, 12, and 19

Jam: October 26

$60 + HST and fees (includes three classes + jam)
