-----

Our third seminar this winter features Anna Fonseca, MSc, PGeo, Principle Consultant (Geology) at SRK Consulting presenting "A Sinusoidal Career in Mineral Exploration".

Join us on Thursday, March 15 for an evening of learning and networking. Doors open at 4:45 pm and the presentation will start at 5:15 pm and will be followed by networking over pizza and drinks (included in ticket price).

Capsule abstract: Alternating multi-year global periods of over-funded and under-funded mineral exploration plays a significant role in shaping the culture of the Canadian mineral exploration community. Long periods of lay-offs and lack of opportunities for recently graduated geologists lead to talent drain. During booms, on the other hand, unqualified professionals are commonly promoted to positions that involve mentoring young geologists. Young geologists must foresee the predictable pitfalls and difficulties in order to become successful in this unique and exciting career.

The Mineral Exploration Knowledge & Skills Seminar Series features distinguished industry professionals from a broad range of relevant disciplines with the goal of filling the gap between university and industry. The seminar will take place in the Seminar Room (ES 2093) of the Earth Sciences Centre at the University of Toronto (22 Russell Street).

Early bird tickets are $5 for students and early-career geoscientists, and $20 for others. Early bird pricing expires at midnight on Tuesday, March 13. Regular prices are $10 for students and early-career geoscientists, and $40 for others.

A live webinar stream is freely available to geoscience groups at universities. Please contact info@nextgengeo.ca to set this up if your group is interested in tuning in remotely.

Anna Fonseca has over 25 years of experience in mineral exploration. In 1993 she obtained a BS degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and in 1998 an MSc from the University of British Columbia. She started her career in the Yukon Geological Survey, went on to work as an independent consultant throughout the Americas and Middle East, and taught Economic Geology at the Ecole Polytechnique LaSalle Beauvais, France. In 2012 she joined SRK’s Structural Geology group as a structural and alteration geologist. Since joining SRK she has been focusing on deciphering the structural controls over hydrothermal alteration, and prioritizing prospective faults through field based and remote sensing infrared spectroscopy.
