Event Information

University of Guelph's Cultural Diversity Office and Gender & Sexual Diversity Office, in collaboration with Laurier’s Student Affairs and Centre for Student Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and McMaster’s Equity and Inclusion Office are thrilled to announce our cornerstone event of Black History Month.

On Monday, March 2nd at 7:00 pm we have invited model, reality television personality, and runway coach best known for his work on America's Next Top Model, J. Alexander, to deliver a keynote address.

Exploring how the intersections of blackness, gender, and femininity uniquely affect the lives of black queer folks, the keynote will focus on experiences with personal identities, navigating the fashion industry as a Black queer person, and lessons taken in advocacy. In addition, Miss J will be looking at diversity and representation, examining gender expectations and finding the tools to create spaces that contribute to disrupting the status quo, increase diversity and representation. The overarching theme centers on the importance of representation in media and its effect on underrepresented populations.
