Event Details

Come and get a flavour of Skylight Festival, a festival of Arts, Spirituality and Justice.

Experience the intersection of these elements of life through dynamic and engaging Contributors. Friday night begins with a free pre-event at 6pm with Archbishop Don Bolen and Rabbi Jeremy Parnes offering their presentation on Leonard Cohen.  The paid program starts at 8pm with a musician (TBC).  Saturday starts at 9am with a talk by Zarqa Nawaz and then there will be a choice of a speaker, or a musician/artist during most of the day.  For information on speakers and schedule, check our website  page.  There will be a children's program, including a Messy Church workshop for all ages together. The day concludes with an all ages worship experience at 3pm followed an optional session of Beer and Hymns from 4-5pm.   Ticket price does not include lunch - a separate lunch ticket can be purchased.  If you need vegetarian or gluten free, please let us know.   We encourage folk to bring your own water bottle and travel mug.

Explore new ways of being church and expressing our faith/spirituality.  We will experience each session through the theme for this year's Skylight Festival: Courage to...

Courage to...Hope

Courage to...Love

Courage to...Act

Courage to...Dream

Courage to...Speak

Courage to...Stand up

Courage to...

All are welcome, to this queer friendly, wide tent of spiritual exploration. Spiritual but not religious especially welcome. If the ticket price is a hindrance to your attendance please let contact us to get information regarding how to register.  Tickets at the door will be available for $30

A Taste of Skylight, is an opportunity for people to come and get a flavour of what the larger Skylight Festival is like.  It is our hope to provide an experience of exploring the importance of the intersection of arts, spirituality, faith, and social justice.

How Skylight began...

The planning team for the national Skylight Festival is a small, ecumenical group of people passionate about arts, faith and justice. We each found ourselves longing to create an open space for people of diverse backgrounds to come together, exploring faith while engaging in art and being inspired by speakers and seekers of justice. So, we began to gather and dream. And the vision of Skylight emerged...

The summer of 2015 marked the first Skylight Festival -- a pilot for our 2016 official launch. Both Festival's were incredible! We continue to build toward an event that is offers a wide tent of expression of faith and spirituality.

The Skylight Vision...

Nurturing a narrative of hope, joy and transformation, the Skylight Festival is a celebratory and creative space where diverse communities connect to explore arts, faith, peace and justice.

The Living Spirit Centre

The Living Spirit Centre is made up of three congregations sharing space:  Eastside United, Bread of Life Lutheran, and St. Philip Anglican churches.  We have the only outdoor labyrinth in the city.  The Living Spirit Centre strives to be a welcoming and sacred place, open to the diversity and inclusion of all.  St. Philip Anglican is intentional about welcoming and caring for all people while Bread of Life Lutheran and Eastside United are intentionally sensitive to the needs of LGBT folk in their welcome.

The idea for the event was initiated by Russell Mitchell-Walker, Eastside United Church.  Russell is the program chair for Skylight Festival, the national event in Paris ON, July 27-29, 2018.   As minister of Eastside United Church he is commited to connecting with the nieghbourhood, finding new ways of being church, and providing opportunities for folk to experience and explore faith and spiirtuality.
