Event description

Description

A Taste of the Arctic will bring flavours and sounds from Inuit Nunangat to Ottawa.

There is simply no other event in Ottawa like this one, bringing together influential political leaders, Inuit musicians and harvesters, and Canadians interested in learning more about our culture over ingredients that are otherwise impossible to come by in Southern Canada.

Your ticket gets you a full meal of small plates created using ingredients gathered from hunters and harvesters from across Inuit Nunangat and access to see an unforgettable assembly of Inuit performers. This year, the iconic Inuit rockers - Northern Haze - will be the headline act.

Northern Haze began its musical journey in 1984 in Igloolik, Nunavut jamming on homemade guitars and a plastic drum set. The following year, they released their first album, a self-titled debut in Inuktitut, the first Indigenous-language rock album ever recorded in North America. They gained a tremendous following over the following decades with rousing guitar riffs reminiscent of Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin. The band has continued to create music, even in the face of the tragic loss of two band members in 2007. Their most recent album, Siqinnaarut is their first new recording since the 80s and packs a historically and culturally charged punch. Expect to hear some classics and some new songs too.
