Description

ABSI Connect Gathering

ABSI Connect is a provincial network that connects, aligns, celebrates, strengthens, and learns from Albertan change-makers who are finding innovative ways to address complex problems in their communities. In partnership with a new pan-Canadian network (Social Innovation Canada), we're working to share stories and evidence, build connections between change-makers, and help people grow in their ability to innovate and create impact.

This spring, ABSI Connect is looking at creative ways to share insights and stories from the perspectives of Albertan change-makers, through insight briefs, podcasts, and online or in-person conversations. We are also working to create a community of "network weavers"--people who are well-connected within specific communities, sectors, or issue spaces and want to help people connect across divides, share stories, and become better change-makers.

Join us on May 13 for a fun and informal gathering with other Albertan change-makers. Share what you’re learning on your change-making journey, and give input as to the stories, insights, connections, and conversations ABSI Connect might offer to celebrate and support your work. We’ll be joined by a representative of Ashoka Canada who will share insights about change-making from their global network of fellows.

Consider attending this event if

  • You are a change-maker or someone who supports change-makers in our province.
  • You want to find out what social innovation looks like in different contexts across Alberta.
  • You want to get better at addressing your community's complex social or environmental challenges (we're looking to broaden participation from rural and Indigenous change-makers, and can help with transportation costs).
  • You want to help shape the conversations, stories, and insights this network will create to help change-makers grow.
  • You're curious to learn more about ABSI Connect, Social Innovation Canada, and Ashoka Canada.
  • You're comfortable with ambiguity and eager to help shape an emerging regional and national network.

We encourage participation from rural, Indigenous, and minority communities as we seek to make this network relevant and inclusive for more Albertan change-makers. We can help with transportation costs if that's a barrier for you.

Detailed agenda to come; your input in this registration form will help us shape the day's activities. The event will run from approximately 9 am - 4 pm. Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Tentative Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the day, you will be able to:

  • Describe how social innovation tools and approaches are being used in a variety of Albertan initiatives.
  • Identify some of the themes, gaps, and questions emerging from change-making work across the province.
  • Describe ABSI Connect and Social Innovation Canada (evolution, goals, and ways you can engage).
  • Identify lessons learned from the Ashoka network that may support your change-making approach.
  • Propose topics for future conversations, publications, and podcasts to celebrate and learn from Albertan change-makers.
  • Offer peer input in response to initiatives and questions brought forward by fellow change-makers.
  • (We hope!) Identify at least one new relationship, approach, or opportunity to help you become a better change-maker.

Input from participants will be used to help ABSI Connect identify stories and themes to explore in upcoming conversations, insight briefs, and/or podcasts. Input from participants will also help Ashoka Canada begin to identify outstanding Albertan change-makers who may be candidates for Ashoka fellowships.
