About the presenters:
Bradley McLean – Associate Director, Innovation, Commercialization, Partnerships at Brock University
Bradley McLean leads the Innovation, Commercialization & Partnerships team in the Office of Research Services at Brock University where he and his group support commercialization of Brock research, facilitate partnerships, connect industry members or community organizations with Brock researchers, and is an integral part of the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem in Niagara. Brad completed a PhD in Biotechnology at the Michael Smith Laboratory at UBC and worked for a decade in the biotechnology industry before being recruited to join Brock University’s commercialization team.
Carolyn Mullin – Associate Director, Strategic Partnerships at Niagara College
Carolyn Mullin is an Associate Director with the Research & Innovation division of Niagara College. Carolyn leads the division’s business development and outreach activities, including all communications activities, event planning and network-related outreach. Having moved from journalism into strategic communications, she has developed an extensive network through more recent work with non-profit and post-secondary institutions, and through her volunteer work with several Niagara organizations, including as a director with the South Niagara Chambers of Commerce, and with the Rotary Club of Fonthill. Carolyn is a graduate of the Journalism Program at Niagara College, and holds an Honours BA and an MA, both in English Language and Literature, from Brock University.
Kelly Stewart – Patent Agent, Rowand LLP
Kelly is a registered Patent Agent with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Kelly focuses in the areas of patent drafting, filing, and prosecution. He also helps his clients register industrial designs.
With a background in Electrical Engineering, Kelly deals primarily with technologies in the electrical, computer, software, medical imaging, mechanical, and oil and gas fields. He has experience prosecuting patent applications in Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. Kelly’s ability to quickly understand new technologies allows him to prepare detailed and creative patent applications in an effort to maximize patent protection.
