Two years ago, the Government of British Columbia introduced the Professional Governance Act, unifying the legal framework of five provincial regulators under a single piece of legislation. In July, firms practicing engineering or geoscience in British Columbia will be required to hold a Permit to Practice issued by Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
In preparing for this change, we have been working with the regulator to answer questions and provide members with the resources they need to comply with the new regulations including two free events in November 2020 with the regulators and the Office of the Superintendent of Professional Governance.
This spring, our Small Firms Council identified that smaller firms, some of whom have little or no experience with Permit to Practice in Alberta, may benefit from the opportunity to connect with each other and the regulator prior to the start of the program. In response, we are hosting a free event with Engineers and Geoscientists BC to assist small to medium sized firms with questions they may have as they look toward application for Permit to Practice in July. Members are invited to send one or two representatives – preferably a senior leader or (if different) the firm’s “responsible member” (i.e. the individual charged with oversight of regulation on behalf of the firm). The limit on attendance is to ensure we hear from members who need assistance and are able to answer as many questions as possible during the time available.
Joining us for the event will be:
- Peter Mitchell, P.Eng. – Director, Professional Practice, Standards and Development
- Kelly Dayman, P.L.Eng. – Associate Director, Regulation of Firms
