Event description
We invite you to hear about research on vacant lots and properties in Edmonton, conducted by Sydney Gross, a Social Innovation Fellow.

About this Event

What should be done with vacant lots and properties? While there's no simple answer, Social Innovation Fellow Sydney Gross explored this issue as a participant in RECOVER, the City of Edmonton's urban wellness initiative. In collaboration with the City, Arts Habitat, Edmonton Arts Council, Roundhouse, the Alberta Government, and community artists from the Indigenous Arts Movement and iHuman, Sydney created "Empty Storefront." The prototype, based out of Edmonton's Great Western Garment Building, featured a mural and arts and crafts.

This session will provide you with an understanding of the climate surrounding empty storefronts, why they may be empty, how they may be filled and the barriers surrounding that.
