Description
This workshop is designed to increase individual and institutional capacity to support people who have experienced sexual violence. Participants will learn how to respond to disclosures of sexual abuse and assault, and develop a better understanding of the issue of sexual violence. This session was created following the passing of Bill 21: An Act to Protect Patients, and is tailored specifically to staff of regulatory colleges and health professionals in Allberta regulated under the Health Professions Act. It covers the following information:

Overview of SACE services

Defining sexual violence: An overview of Canadian Sexual Assault, Sexual Harrassment, and Consent Law

Exploring sexual assault myths and their impacts

Understanding responses to trauma and impacts of sexual violence

Responding to disclosures

Providing support and referrals
Light refreshments and coffee/tea will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own bag lunches to eat during the session.

Tickets are non-refundable but may be transferred to a different participant.

The Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE) is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that works to provide wraparound support for children adolescents and adults who have experienced sexual violence through crisis support, counselling, court support, and advocacy, and further to foster prevention of sexual violence through direct public education and advisory consultation with groups and agencies undertaking their own prevention efforts.
