If you are intimidated by drawing, this course increases confidence through a progressive and varied selection of exercises and activities. Traditional materials such as pencil, pen, and charcoal on paper will be used to study core ideas and skills: tone, form and proportion, perspective and artistry. Demonstrations and individual instruction included. All welcome, no prior experience necessary.

A25 - Painting the Canadian Landscape
Tues Sept 18 - Nov 20

Time: 6:30 - 9:30pm

Proudly paint in the manner of some of our favourite Canadian artists by taking inspiration from their techniques, ideas and stories. We will discuss historical and contemporary paintings as reference. Plenty of support and guidance will be available as you express your interests in oil or acrylic paint. All levels welcome.

A38 - Creating Ceramic Sculpture
Tues Sept 18 - Nov 20

Time: 6:30 - 9:30 pm

This course is an introduction to creating clay sculptures. Students will learn how to hand sculpt clay using a variety of techniques including slab forming, carving, imprinting, modeling, and mold making. No previous experience is necessary. An additional material fee of $30 is payable to the instructor at the first class for all required materials.

A79 - Painting From Your Photos

Students can bring their favourite photos, ie landscapes, portraits, city scapes, pets etc and turn them into works of art! Students can choose size and medium and will work at their own pace. All levels are welcome. See course outline for material list.

A44 - Creative Samplings
Thurs Sept 20 - Nov 29 (no class Nov 22)

Time: 1:30 - 4:30pm

An opportunity to try a new technique and creative project every class. Exercise your creativity by trying your hand at ten unique projects over ten weeks in ten traditional art disciplines such as painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking. For the absolute beginner or the curious discipline-centric. An additional material fee of $150 is payable to the instructor at the first class for all required materials so you can explore different mediums and develop skill sets to inspire you for future classes.

A03 - Paint Big

Time: 1 - 4pm

A course designed to help those students who want to loosen up, explore, and take some new risks with paint. By using large canvases or paper or whatever the surface choice may be, along with large brushes, rollers, scrapers, spray bottles etc, students can play and feel less intimidated. All levels and mediums are welcome. A sense of adventure is encouraged. See course outline for material list.

A52 - Fun and Functional Pottery
Thur Sept 20 - Nov 29 (no class Nov 22)

Time: 7 - 10pm

Explore the many ways to create functional pieces for home and garden using handbuilding and the wheel. All levels welcome as each student will develop their own pieces with individual guidance and demos from the instructor on form, surface, finishing and glazing. Let's get creative! An additional material fee of $30 is payable to the instructor at the first class for required materials.

A77 - Beginners Throwing on the Wheel
Sat Sept 29 -Dec 8 (no class Oct 6, Nov 10 & 24 )

Time: 1 - 4pm

No prior experience required! The focus of this class will be learning to control the clay so it is perfectly centered for successful pots. Demos each class on different steps of centering clay, throwing cylinders, bowls and plates finishing the pots with various slip stains and glazes. We will also cover posture at the wheel, clay prep and basic glazing techniques for our finished pieces. An additional material fee of $30 is payable to the instructor at the first class for all required materials.

Share Adult Programs - Starting September 2018

Event Details

ART SUPPLIES: Adult students must supply their own materials UNLESS noted otherwise. Course outlines containing the supply lists will be available on the AGB website under Education registration page.

ATTIRE: Please dress in clothing that reflects the nature of the activity.  Your clothing may get messy from the materials and mediums utilized in your class.  Also, closed-toe shoes are mandatory. 

ALLERGIES OR SPECIAL NEEDS? Important - Notify us on your regsitration if the student has an allergy, health concerns, or a learning disability that could impact participation in the class.  We would like to remind you that we are a nut-free facility.  Please ensure that any food or drink items that you bring into the AGB are free of nut products.  We appreciate your cooperation.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY Refunds are cheques payable to registrants, subject to the following:

1. The AGB reserves the right to cancel or combine classes if minimum enrollment is not met.

2. If a course is cancelled, registrants will be notified up to a week prior to the start date of the class.

3. Requests for refunds must be made in writing to the Creative Programs Coordinator.

4. No refunds will be given after the 2nd week of a course.

5. Except for courses canceled by the gallery, all refunds will be subject to a twenty-five dollar administration charge and a pro-rated deduction for classes up to AND including the date of the refund request.

6. Refunds will be issued within six weeks of the cancellation. 

7. Save your receipt for tax purposes.
