Event Details

Marketing a photography business is tough, especially in a saturated market. If you're serious about making money as a photographer you have to dig deep into your entrepreneurial soul, discover new opportunities and prospects, leveraging only marketing tools and tactics that fit your brand and budget.

Stop trying to stand out from the crowd, draw a crowd.

A clear and compelling marketing approach will make ‘living the dream’ a lot more fun and rewarding. Whether you’re looking for an injection of new ideas or you need to formulate an actionable marketing plan, this workshop and consulting package will help you cut through the noise, and the crap, and put a strategy in place. This 1-day intensive, and the bonus consulting sessions, will guide you through the action steps necessary to get the clarity and momentum you need to successfully promote your photography business. Advanced Marketing for Photographers is limited to just ten (10) people.


This 1-day workshop will take place November 5, 2016.


Two (2) private consulting sessions (Skype) are included with registration:

1. One (1) hour, pre-workshop session will take place prior to November, 3, 2016.
2. Thirty (30) minute, post-workshop session will take place after December 4, 2016.


The retail price of this workshop is $390. The early-bird rate is only CAD $325 - save 16% if you purchase your seat before 11:59 PM (PST) on October 30, 2016.


The consulting session and workshop will be conducted by Corwin Hiebert, photography business consultant, founder of Taendem Agency Inc., and creator of the Business Action Planner Toolkit for Photographers. Corwin works with talent such as world-renowned photographer, publisher, and best-selling author David duChemin, and he is the author of Living the Dream: Putting Your Creativity to Work [and Getting Paid] (Peachpit Press, 2013). This boot camp is produced by Taendem Agency Inc.


This workshop is for photographers who have at least two (2) years of business history.

Participants should feel relatively clear about who their target audience is PLUS have some sales history. In other words, this workshop is designed to help photographers who are looking to grow an established business, not looking to start one—and it doesn't matter if you're full-time, part-time, or doing it on the side... if you're making some money this workshop is right for you.

Prior to the workshop, participants must be available for two private, consulting sessions with Corwin (Skype) - these are complimentary, but mandatory, sessions and they're exclusive to registrants of this workshop (retail value just one consulting session is USD $275).


8:30 AM - 9:00 AM: Doors open (refreshments provided)

9:00 AM - 9:30 AM: Session 1 – Making Sense of the Market

Every industry, niche, or genre of photographic work is in flux right as the barrier to entry continues to fall (increased competition) and professional talent is more accessible and affordable than ever. This initial session will introduce the key concepts of a healthy, long-game marketing approach in light of current market activity, as well as some preliminary discussion regarding industry trends drawn from Corwin's agency work.

9:30 AM - 10:30 AM: Session 1 – Establishing Your Marketing Make-up

Every photographer has their own unique value proposition—it's why clients come to you (and it's especially why they come back)—but, that distinctness is lost when ones' marketing looks and smells like everyone else's. After some serious naval gazing regarding your previous marketing challenges, we'll dive into what's going to work for you moving forward. This session will outline how to define your unique marketing approach and how to choose which sales drivers and promotional methods align with your brand, personality, photographic style, and types of offerings.

10:30 AM - 11:00 AM: Break (refreshments provided)

11:00 AM - 12:30 PM: Session 2 - Attracting Your Target Audience

It's useless to try and stand out in the crowd of "everyone is a photographer"—your marketing efforts need to be laser-focused on specific types of buyers in order to create the kind of opportunities that produce the sales you need. This session will take photographers step-by-step through the actions necessary to grow, attract, and manage their professional network and ultimately leverage their marketing methods without having to 'push' their talent on so-called prospects.

12:30 PM - 1:30 PM: Lunch — Provided by a local catering company; registrants will be contacted prior for their custom order.

1:30 PM - 3:00 PM: Session 3 — Developing Your Marketing Toolkit (Hands-on)

There are a millions ways to promote a photography business but you can only employ a select few tactics and tools in order to get the job done effectively, on-brand, and with your creative spirit in tact. This hands-on, working session will guide a photographer through the process of developing a holistic marketing strategy by creating a vision-driven approach to each method. Some individual work and small group discussion will take place.

3:00 PM - 4:30 PM: Session 4 – Creating Your Marketing Calendar (Hands-on)

So much time and money can be wasted on promotional actives which produce little-to-no new business. This practical session will help you create a manageable and repeatable 3-month marketing calendar that you can use immediately to help you attract clients. Some individual work and small group discussion will take place.

4:30 PM - 4:45 PM: Session 5 – Your Next Steps

That’s a wrap but we won’t send you off into the world without a frank discussion about your next steps and how to ensure you have the accountability and discipline in place to keep yourself on track (no matter what shiny new toy your favourite camera company releases next week).

The front doors to the building are locked on the weekend. If no one is at the door to greet you, please text (604) 803-2019 when you arrive and we'll come down to let you into the building.


Free street parking is available in limited supply (weekends are not usually a problem). To be safe, please come prepared to plug a meter.


There are many great hotels and rentals nearby; plan as you see fit: Granville Island Hotel, Opus Hotel, AirBnB.


Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • A maximum of ten (10) registrants will be permitted.
  • A minimum of five (6) registrants is required by October 30. If that minimum is not reached, the event will be cancelled and full refunds will be issued.
  • Registration is only available online via; tickets must be paid in full prior to the event. If the event is full, please register for the waitlist, as an additional boot camp may be added with sufficient demand.
  • Boot camp registrations are non-refundable, but they are transferable (which means someone else can take your spot if you are unable to attend; if you require assistance with this, we’ll do what we can to help).
  • Food and beverages will be provided by a local catering company. Registrants will be contacted prior to the workshop re: their meal preferences.
  • Please bring a laptop or tablet.
  • This is a camera-free day… leave your shinny picture-making toys at home.
