Event description

Description

Please Note: This workshop is intended for those who have previously attended the Write Your First Novel Now! workshop, or have already written a draft novel or are working on one.

If you're new to novel writing, you may be interested in the Write Your First Novel Now! workshop.

You've written your first novel draft (or are on your way there)... now what?

In my workshops, I emphasize the need to write a lot, whether that's novels, short stories, poems or memoirs. There is no short cut to putting in the time at your journal or keyboard. So with that, here's your opportunity to work with like-minded writers who have completed at least one novel (or are working on completing it), and want to further develop their craft.

In my 12-week introductory Write Your First Novel Now! workshop, you learned the fundamentals of plotting, viewpoint writing, dialogue etc. In this Novel Writing Workshop, we'll go even further and look at more advanced plotting techniques and story models. We'll also spend time developing the art of revising and the ABCs of publishing. And, of course, we'll share our stories with each other for feedback and suggestions in a supportive environment.

Here are some of the things we'll cover:

How to revise your first draft so your prose shines

Advanced plotting techniques - building tension through nuance

Developing your voice as an author

Publishing your work

PLUS you have full access to my private Facebook writers group, and novel-building templates

What We'll Do

In-class time is focused on reading and responding to each others' work. We'll look at advanced plotting techniques, character development, and revision. The focus of this workshop is building on what you learned writing your first novel.

When and Where

We'll meet at Carleton University from 6 - 9 pm every Wednesday evening from January 9 to March 27

What To Bring

If you're already working on a new novel story, bring it in! If you've been plotting your new novel, bring that in too! Although we'll spend some time looking at story in general, the focus of this workshop is on the writing and revising of your new novel (based on what we learned in Write Your First Novel Now!) so if you have a chance to develop some ideas before we start, the better.

My Role

My role is to coach you through the novel-writing process, give you constructive feedback, show you the proven techniques that experienced writers use, and challenge your assumptions. I will hold you to account so that you get your first draft done. I will help you develop your story idea, characters and plotting so you have a clear roadmap to follow.

Money Back Guarantee

I'm so confident my course will help you draft your first novel that I'm offering a 100% personal money back guarantee. If you do the work and you're not completely satisfied by the end of the workshop, I'll personally help you get on track or give you your money back no questions asked.

Refund and Intellectual Property Policy

When you sign up for this workshop, you agree to and understand the following:

  • any stories, story ideas, character ideas, or anything related to the development of fiction in the workshop remain the intellectual property of the individual participant

  • full refunds will only be issued up to 7 days before the workshop takes place.
