Advanced Overlay Materials for the Resource Industry
Event Information
Description
Tungsten carbide- and chromium carbide-based overlays are the mainstays of the hardfacing industry in Alberta. These technologies offer excellent performance over a wide range of applications, however there are some environments where they may not be the optimal choice. InnoTech Alberta has conducted an industrial review of overlay technologies and manufacturing methods for challenging applications in the Alberta Resource sector. The workshop will be a forum where end-users and applicators can explore manufacturing methods and solutions.
Gary Fisher, PhD PEng, Team Lead of the Surface Engineering group at InnoTech Alberta, will present information on:
- Applications highlighted by oil, gas and oil sands operators that are not best served by standard overlays
- Overlay technologies utilized for applications other than oil and gas
- New composite and alloy technologies
- Advanced manufacturing developments for overlay deposition
The event will include an expert presentation on process considerations for manufacturers and a presentation on Energy Efficiency Alberta's Custom Energy Solutions for manufacturers. There will also be opportunity after the workshop to tour InnoTech Alberta’s Surface Engineering Team’s on-site facilities.
