This course is designed for regulatory investigators with foundational experience testifying before courts or tribunals. Students will build on their basic understanding of the justice system, its workings and the differences in the rules covering testimony before the courts and various tribunals. Students will be given the opportunity to interact with and pose questions to experts from the legal profession as well as experienced regulatory personnel.

A seasoned legal practitioner with experience both as a Crown prosecutor and defence counsel will provide instruction, reference materials and real-life examples to teach students:

• How to prepare for giving evidence in court

• The importance of taking comprehensive notes throughout an investigation

• The different burdens of proof when testifying in court or before a tribunal

• The different evidentiary rules when testifying in court or before a tribunal

Students will also hear from an expert panel of judges, Crown Attorneys and defence counsel on how to deliver evidence effectively in direct examination and what to expect from a rigorous cross-examination.

This is an in-person event.

CANCELATION & REFUND POLICY The RCEC will not issue a refund or partial credit for any cancellations received less than 30 days prior to an event. In the event an attendee must cancel substitution of another individual will be permitted provided that notification is provided to the RCEC no less than 48 hours in advance of the scheduled start of the event. Any EventBrite fees charged for the registration are non-refundable.
