Advancing Collaborative Climate Adaptation in British Columbia

Join us for this special one-day event on advancing collaborative action on climate change in British Columbia.

  • Learn how to manage local climate risks through collaborative climate action and integrative adaptation across all sectors.
  • Consider climate impacts across urban systems and the cascading impacts on natural, social, and built systems.
  • Hear adaptation stories from the field and the many forms of decision-making and climate action.
  • Connect with local experts to identifycommunity climate change risks in small group workshops

The event combines panel discussions, presentations, and interactive break-outs to increase understanding about climate impacts, and to highlight how community-based, collaborative planning is helping to manage local climate risks and advance action.

This moderated panel discussion will highlight the need for collaborative action to advance climate action at the local level. Focusing in on the idea that adaptation action is the responsibility of every organization and level of government.

Thinking beyond silos: Cascading climate impacts in complex urban systems

Climate change does not impact any single urban system in isolation. Impacts to the natural environment can create cascading impacts to the built environment, affecting health, safety, and well-being in social systems. This session will present impacts across urban systems and explore their linkages.

Adaptation Stories From the Field, a look at the Cowichan Valley

Effective adaptation requires buy-in, input and action by many actors – governments, community groups, businesses, and residents. This session will showcase how work in the Cowichan Valley is bringing people together to identify risks, plan for the future, and advance collective action.

2:00 - 3:30 Interactive Breakout Session
Climate Risk World Café

It’s your chance to have your questions answered and build a climate network by visiting different tables each hosted by a climate expert, and to build connections that you can use in your work. In this session you will have a chance to learn how to identify community risks from more extreme weather and climate change, and begin to think about the likelihood and consequence of specific impacts by speaking with expert stakeholders.
