About this event

This 90 minutes session will explore the critical work done by community-based organizations that support and assist people with their housing, immigration, health care, employment and other problems with legal dimensions.

Our keynote for this event will be Rebecca Sandefur, a leading American access to justice scholar. This will be followed by a panel on community workers across Canada who will share their experiences working with people whose life problems have a legal dimension. They will focus on how they provide responsive, effective services.

The event will be moderated by Julie Mathews, Community Legal Education Ontario and our panelists include:

  • Mark Crawford, Unemployed Workers Help Centre, Regina
  • Kristine Mallorca, The Today Centre, Edmonton
  • Luis Alberto Matas and Diana Gallego, FCJ Refugee Centre, Toronto
  • Camille Thompson, OEIL – Organisation d'Éducation et d'Information Logement de Côte-des-Neiges, Quebec

The session will wrap up with a discussion about how the justice system can better support community justice workers.

---

  • Mark Crawford, Community Unemployed Workers Help Centre, Regina
  • Kristine Mallorca, The Today Centre, Edmonton
  • Luis Alberto Matas, FCJ Refugee Centre, Toronto
