Alberta Health Services' Seniors Health Strategic Clinical Network (SH SCN) is pleased to invite you to a FREE collaborative workshop for primary health care clinicians and other key stakeholders that provide services to people living with dementia in the community. This full day event, will bring together primary care teams from across Alberta to,

  • Understand challenges in supporting people living with dementia and their caregivers in the community and discuss ways to address these challenges.
  • Showcase best practices established in primary care in Alberta and Ontario that could lead to a future primary health care approach.
  • Begin to establish a collaborative process by engaging interested primary health care and community teams in their ability to diagnose and care for people living with dementia in the community and their caregivers.

ADVANCING DEMENTIA DIAGNOSIS AND MANAGEMENT IN ALBERTA - THE FOUNDATIONAL ROLE OF PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SUPPORTED BY SPECIALIZED SERVICES

A FREE full day collaborative workshop for primary health care clinicians and other key stakeholder that provide services to people living with dementia in the community. Guest speakers Dr. Brad Bahler, PCN Physician, Wolf's Creek Primary Care Network and Dr. Linda Lee, Director of the Centre for Family Medicine Memory Clinic will address current challenges and provide their unique insights into the provision of Dementia care in both Alberta and Ontario. With moderated and team focused discussion, we'll consider advocacy, program planning and service delivery for a focused geriatric team service.

This event is invitation only and registration is required. Numbers are limited. Parking is available and overnight accomodation is available at a special rate from the venue. Registration includes light breakfast and a boxed lunch.

At this public event Dr. Linda Lee, Director of the Centre for Family Medicine Memory Clinic, Kitchener and 2009 Regional Family Physician of the Year (Ontario College of Family Physicians), discusses a person-centred perspective of issues surrounding dementia diagnosis and management. This informal evening also provides the opportunity for PCN physicians, care providers and local families to network, ask questions, share ideas and make new connections.

This event is FREE to attend but registration is required. Guests attending the collaborative workshop day on Friday, February 26th are encouraged to attend. Ample parking is available at Red Deer College. Soft drinks and desserts will be served.

Sheraton Red Deer Hotel, is situated in centre of the city’s business and entertainment districts and within walking distance of shops, services, the college, and the regional hospital. To arrive at the event by car, follow these directions.

Directions from the Red Deer Regional Airport (11km) 3 flights daily from Calgary International Airport to Red Deer Regional Airport

  • Turn right out of the Airport parking lot and follow road to Highway 2A
  • Turn North on Highway 2A for approximately 11km and continue onto Taylor Drive in Red Deer
  • Continue on Taylor Drive and turn right onto 32 Street
  • Sheraton Red Deer will be located on the left side of 32nd Street

From the North (Edmonton International Airport)

  • Go South on Highway 2
