Effective health research drives positive changes in health outcomes and the healthcare system. But these changes must be equitable and accessible to all.

On April 4, join the 2022 Gairdner Wightman Award winner, Dr. Deborah J. Cook, MD, from McMaster University and Dr. Verna Yiu, MD, Interim Provost and Vice-President (Academic) from the University of Alberta for a discussion on how health and health care can be improved through citizen engagement. Hear from these distinguished scholars and others on their experiences in the constantly changing landscapes of health and health care.

We will offer a selection of complimentary food for the morning and lunch, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. The O'Brien Institute for Public Health at the University of Calgary supports academic scholars to tackle public health challenges, connecting them with health practitioners, citizens, governments, businesses, and non-governmental organizations when collective action is required.

The Institute's membership includes more than 500 multidisciplinary researchers from 17 Cumming School of Medicine departments and nine other University of Calgary faculties, such as Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Kinesiology and Arts; health professionals in Alberta Health Services; and, research users and policy makers from municipal and provincial institutions.
