Adventures in Alginate: Introduction to Mould-making / Découvrir l’alginate : Introduction au moulage

Event Description

This workshop is a great introduction to the exciting world of mould-making! You are invited to bring in your own small object to mould, or we can show you how to mould your own hand, finger, or ear instead. For this workshop, we will be using a seaweed-based moulding material called alginate. Once the mould is finished, you will be able to cast a replica of your object (or limb) in plaster of paris!

A brief introduction to the principals of silicone mould-making will also be provided at the end of the workshop.

Guide for Objects:

Size: no larger than a fist and no smaller than a golf ball
Material: must be able to get wet (we recommend hard, smooth materials like plastic or metal)

We recommend bringing in a couple of objects so that you have some options!

Nicolas Lapointe is a multidisciplinary artist based in Montréal, Québec. For more than three years, Nicolas has been moulding rocks of all shapes and sizes. He loves to share his skills with people of all backgrounds and interests! Check out his work at: nicolaslapointe.com

Audience

Teens and up. No prior knowledge necessary. Up to 10 participants. The course will be offered in English and French.

Cet atelier est une introduction au monde passionnant du moulage et de la reproduction! Vous êtes invités à soit apporter un petit objet à reproduire, ou bien nous vous montrerons comment mouler votre main, vos doigts ou bien votre oreille! Pour cet atelier, nous utiliserons l’alginate; produit relativement non dispendieux et non toxique à base d’algues. Une fois le moule terminé, vous pourrez ensuite reproduire votre objet (ou membre) en plâtre de Paris!

Une brève introduction au moulage en silicone sera également présentée à la fin de l’atelier.

Guide des objets:

Grandeur: pas plus grand qu’un poing, pas plus petit qu’une balle de golf
Matériel: Dois être résistant à l’eau (nous recommandons des matériaux tels que le plastique ou bien le métal)
