We’re joined by Bereskin & Parr LLP, Pallett Valo and BDO Canada to deliver RIC's yearly session for our valued network of volunteer advisors.

Joanna Ma and Stephen Beney join us from Bereskin & Parr will delve into IP as the currency for innovation. They’ll highlight the critical role IP can play in transforming startup business strategy, aid fundraising efforts, defend market share, and differentiate a unique brand and image.

Dan Lundenberg joins us from BDO Canada to discuss why U.S. tax reform matters for Canadian companies whether they are considering expanding or solely seeking to pursue business domestically. Meet the Speakers:

Stephen Beney, Managing Partner at Bereskin & Parr LLP

Stephen works with clients to assess IP needs, and has helped to secure patents for a diverse array of clients, including startups, SMEs, major multinational companies and university researchers. He advises on IP management and strategic planning and has prepared many patentability opinions, as well as infringement and validity opinions. In addition to his extensive patent work, Stephen has experience in preparing and prosecuting industrial design applications.

Joanna Ma, Partner at Bereskin & Parr LLP

Joanna's practice is predominantly focused on advising various-sized technology companies on developing intellectual property (IP) portfolios and strategies that are practical and aligned with their business goals, as well as on the enforcement of IP rights. She is experienced in drafting and prosecuting patent and design applications relating to software, electrical, and medical technologies.

Dan Lundenberg, US Corporate Tax Partner and Leader of BDO Canada LLP's Tax Services

Dan is a focused and dedicated US trained tax lawyer whose strengths lie in devising and formulating creative and effective solutions for his clients. Dan has over 30 years of US corporate tax experience and has lived in Canada since 1996 focusing on the US tax needs of Canadian businesses.

Maria Tassou, Commercial Litigation and Employment & Labour Practice at Pallett Valo LLP

Maria is a certified workplace investigator. She can be retained as an impartial, third-party investigator to conduct efficient, sensitive, and objective investigations into workplace misconduct, such as breaches of workplace policy, and allegations of bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, or discrimination. She is also available to provide legal advice and guidance to employers and human resources professionals conducting their own internal investigations.
