Come visit Africa!
In celebration of BC Culture Days, African artists and knowledge-keepers gather to share their culture with you! Hosted by the African Friendship Society, Africa with the Masters is a weekend festival for everyone. Join us for an Afro vegan meal, FREE activities and lively workshops in drum and dance from November 12-14, 2021.
Africa with the Masters 2021 Schedule
Friday, November 12
African Village Night – 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm
- 7pm: Doors open
- 7:30pm-8pm: Land acknowledgement and music
- 8pm-8:30pm: Storytelling
- 830pm-10:30pm: Music & dance performances
- 10:30pm: We will send you home with Afro Vegan food by Kula Kitchen
Saturday, November 13
Africa Play Day – 10:15am to 1:00pm
- 10:15am-11am: Storytelling with Jean Pierre Makosso
- 11:15am-12pm: Kids' rhythm circle with Munkie Ncapayi (sticks & djembes will be provided to all kids)
- 12:15pm-1pm: Swahili games by Swahili Vision Int'l
Other activities available during transition times, with prizes to win for the kids!
Sunday, November 14
Workshops Day – 12:30pm to 5:00pm
- 12:30-1:45 pm - Drum Circle Etiquette Workshop - bring your own djembe and learn how to maximize your drum circle experience – with Munkie Ncapayi
- 2:00-3:15 pm - Guinean Drum Workshop – djembes available for rent at $5 – with Aly Traoré
- 3:30-4:00 pm - AFS Annual General Meeting - All are welcome to attend
- 4 :00-5:00 pm African Rhythms with Kurai Mubaiwa (Clapping and Chanting to live Mbira music)
