Event description
Learn about AHS, improve your skills, talk with medical leaders and check out opportunities to get involved in AHS initiatives!

About this Event

On behalf of Calgary Zone, Medical Affairs, we would like to invite you to our zone Medical Staff Orientation session. The day has been designed for all physicians who hold probationary privileges in the Calgary Zone.

The orientation is an opportunity to improve your clinical practice and to learn more about AHS as an organization; topics will include areas of quality and patient safety information, clinical informatics, Zone and Medical Affairs information, along with other helpful tips to guide your way through your new position. This orientation will also introduce you to the medical leadership within the Calgary Zone and allow opportunity to ask specific questions. Additionally, for your convenience a multi-program booth fair will be set up amidst the orientation, to introduce you to some of the initiatives and opportunities within AHS and the Calgary Zone.

In person Medical Staff Orientation sessions are held twice annually; for 2019 / 2020, the first session will be held on November 19th, 2019 with a second session planned for May 26th, 2020. If you are unable to attend the November session, we encourage you to attend in May. Attendance at this Orientation is a mandatory requirement to move from probationary to active privileges.

Once they’ve completed the full day orientation, physicians will be able to:

• Identify different teams within Alberta Health Services, Calgary Zone and understand how each team applies to their role as a physician.

• Access digital health records through the Netcare portal and be aware of the current changes being implemented through Connect Care.

• Recognize the importance of patient privacy, security and confidentiality and the regulations they must follow as a physician to ensure patients, physician and AHS are protected from data breaches.

• Recognize and understand outbreak management signage and the instructions for entering restricted areas.

• Explain the complexity of diverse cultures and how to appropriately adjust delivery of care accordingly.

• Recognize and correctly respond to a Clinically Serious Adverse Event.

CME Accreditation is pending.
